DIY Rustic Book Ledges {another nursery project crossed off the list!}

I really hope you guys aren't getting tired of all the nursery projects I've been sharing around here lately but right now that's pretty much ALL that has been going down in the Galindo household. Our baby boy, Ethan, is due to be here in 7 weeks so focusing on the nursery to do list is a must!

At least I got to give our sofa table a chalky makeover.

But.....if you're still with me on the whole "Project Nursery" theme that has taken over this blog of mine (and Instagram feed) then you're going to love these DIY RUSTIC BOOK LEDGES that we made out of these Anna White plans!

Here's why I'm swooning over these ledges:

They're easy to make, they're aesthetically pleasing AND my absolute favorite, they take up no floor space whatsoever which is such a huge deal when the room you're working with is very small!

I have these same ledges in white in our living room used as Gallery Wall Ledges and I was looking for a space to used them in again.

They're that fabulous.

When I started planning out the layout of this nursery I instantly knew what would become of this awkward wall space behind the door. I didn't want to let this small wall space go to waste and I didn't want to take up any floor space for a bookcase so these rustic ledges were the perfect solution.

Here's what the behind the door wall used to look like...

Boring. Unused. Wasted space.

Not anymore though!

These book ledges really make this otherwise "blah wall" pop!

And this white, navy blue and gold chevron striped arrow I scored from Hobby Lobby sure does help bring even more interest to this wall. Am I right or am I right?

And just because it's behind a door doesn't' mean it's completely hidden.

We never have this door open all the way. It's always open about a foot from the wall so you can still see this rustic loveliness from pretty much anywhere in the room (remember this is a very small room we're talking here).

The ledges were stained in Minwax Dark Walnut and distressed along the edges with 100 grit sand paper.

I didn't add any protective coat. I figure any wear and tear it gets from a growing boy will just add to it's rustic character.

All books have been donated by big sister to baby brother. She's constantly adding to his collection of books and stuffed animals....it's too darn cute!

I remember reading her all of these books as a baby and toddler so it's really neat that I'll be reading them to this baby too.

Oh, and see that Hello Ninja book up on top? It's the cutest book ever and was illustrated by one of my brother's talented friends. Lily absolutely loves it because it's fun and easy to read, making it the perfect book to read to her brother.
