Modern Rustic Crib Mobile

Well hello there friends!

Our little boy's nursery is coming along great and we're almost finished with it! It feels SO good to say that, let me tell ya! I give props to the pregnant women in their 8th-9th month preparing a nursery but that is not for me. I like to have everything done at least a month before the baby's due date so I can have time to just breathe. Anyone else feel the same way?

The latest project to get crossed of our nursery to do list is this MODERN RUSTIC CRIB MOBILE I made after being inspired by a twig I found in my craft stash.

What was a twig doing in my craft stash? Don't ask. The important thing here is the twig found its purpose.

As you all know after many different nursery inspirations, we ended up mixing a couple of styles and ended up dubbing this room a Modern Rustic Nursery.

You can see our first nursery progress here (honestly at that point I had no idea where I was taking this room) and the second one here (where the modern rustic came in). The next time you see this nursery it will be completely finished and my huge belly and I will be doing the preggo lady happy dance!!!

This modern rustic crib mobile was so easy and fun to make!

I used a twig, some cotton twine, 3 different craft papers, Mod Podge and wooden shapes (owls, stars and circles) from Michael's.

The first thing I did was place all papers face down one on top of the other and traced my wooden shapes over them. I used small binder clips to hold them in place while cutting.

I made sure to cut enough shapes for all pieces to be covered front and back.

Here are all the cut outs ready to be glued to the wooden shapes.

Aren't those colors and patterns so much fun?! My favorite is the green herringbone pattern!

I didn't capture a picture for the next few steps but they're so easy and self explanatory.

After cutting out the pieces I simply used Mod Podge to glue to each wooden piece front and back. When that dried, I applied a thick coat of Mod Podge over each side to seal and add a little luster.

I then had my hubby screw a small hole through each wooden piece so I could tie a piece of cotton twine to the tops of them. Then I tied each wooden piece to the twig.

After that, I tied two longer pieces to the ends of the twig and tied those two pieces together to form a triangle. Finally, I tied another cotton twine piece to the top of the triangle and my hubby tied it around a screw and attached it to the ceiling.

Now our little one will have a one of a kind, can't buy that at the store, fun and colorful mobile to look at as he dozes off to dreamland.

A simple tap to the end of the twig and it circles around which infants are always mesmerized by. IT'S MOOO-VIIIING...

I love how the twig and patterns of the paper bring the modern rustic theme together so perfectly!

The red, green and yellow colors pop against the neutral gray walls and also help bring in more color to this otherwise neutral room.

Of course there will come a time when I'll have to lift the mobile up higher and then finally remove it all together. Babies only stay immobile for so long and sooner than later he will want to start pulling it down. My plan then is to turn it into art by hanging it on a wall in his room. Just thinking ahead here.

But I'll sure enjoy every moment that he gets to enjoy it before wanting to destroy it. Ha!
