My apologies for the unintentional short blog break I just took!
I haven't even kept up with my favorite blogs or social media so I have a lot of catching up to do! I'm sure you were all busy bees during my hiatus.
I have to admit it's been nice though! I've had plenty of time to just spend time with my family during one of our favorite times of the year!
Before I went MIA, I was finishing the details on my daughter's dresser that I posted on Instagram.
This project is the perfect example of HOW YOU CAN TURN A BORING LAMINATE DRESSER INTO ONE OF A KIND.
And I'm happy to announce that it is finished!
Actually, it's been finished for quite a while but I'm just now getting around to blogging about it.
I had to find a way to make this dresser stand out and rid it of it's ugly factor.
I used the same DIY chalk paint recipe I used for my end tables but used a different paint color, Valspar Cream Delight. Chalk paint is the best because you don't have to prime your piece! Woot woot for that!
If I would of let the kid have her way she would of had a rainbow theme slapped on the dresser. It took a lot of convincing (and cookie baking) on my part to get her on board.
I did let her choose the handles on her own, and I have to say, she did a fabulous job!
After the chalk paint dried (which doesn't take long at all) I used Minwax Polycrylic to seal the deal and ensure the paint lasts a long time.
To bring interest to the dresser I used Mod Podge to glue and seal this striped turquoise and white craft paper I found at Hobby Lobby (my favorite place in the world in case you didn't know).
The sides of the dresser are my favorite since it's what makes it one of a kind!
At first I didn't think the black and white chevron striped handles my daughter picked out would go with the white and turquoise stripes on the sides but it ended up working in a fun and unexpected way!
This dresser's boring days are definitely over!
I still need to paint her bed frame which is currently in an ugly state of maple. But nothing a little paint can't change!
Have you tried chalk paint? Isn't it the absolute best?!
