Please know that I am not an expert when it comes to skin. The opinions expressed are just my personal experience. I obviously have had a positive experience using grapeseed oil but there are also those who have not. Use at your own discretion.
Hello friends!
As you know I am super excited to finally be writing this post and sharing why I love GRAPESEED OIL so much!
Last week, I shared with you my Sensitive Acne Prone Skin Journey & Regimen and I mentioned how I USE GRAPESEED OIL AS A NIGHT SERUM.
I wanted to use the grapeseed oil for a good amount of time before I opened up my pie hole in excitement. Lots of self-control was exercised for this people, lots of it! I'm the type of person who has to instantly tell everyone about a product if I love it!
Well, it's been over 6 months, and I feel like I can finally give a wholesome review to my all natural alternative to night serums. Yay!!!
Today, I will be spilling all the 411 on this nature's serum for healthy skin, how I use it, as well as what it's done for my complexion!
If you want to hear my story of how I suffered from adult acne and read my tips and favorite products for sensitive acne prone skin, you can read that post here.
But just to recap: I had perfect skin in high school, not so perfect skin pretty much all of my twenties, and finally this year my skin has made a tremendous difference! Even without makeup!
Check out my before and after!
Not only did I kiss acne goodbye, but the overall condition of my complexion has improved so much! I still get the occasional breakout but nothing to what it used to be!
I know that I know that I KNOW, that the #1 product that has changed the way my skin looks and feels is this amazing grapeseed oil! That and drinking lots of water has finally given me the healthy glow my skin once lacked.
WHAT IS GRAPESEED OIL AND WHAT ARE IT'S BENEFITS?
- Grapeseed oil is the oil that's extracted from grape seeds.
- This oil is rich in beta-carotene, and vitamins D, C and E and is packed with fatty acids
- It's non-comedogenic which is just a fancy word for "it doesn't clog pores".
- Locks in moisture.
- It is known to treat acne, tighten skin, help diminish dark circles around the eyes, moisturize, reduce scars, restore collagen and fight aging.
- It quickly penetrates the skin due to its light and thin consistency.
- Suitable for all skin types but is especially used by those with sensitive and/or acne prone skin as well as those with oily skin.
Pretty amazing benefits, huh? You can see why it sucked me in! And I'm so glad it did!
The brand I use is Now Foods Grape Seed Oil, 16 Ounce
and it says to be 100% pure and perfect for sensitive skin.
NOW, let me share with you what Grapeseed oil has done for my sensitive acne prone skin and why I love it so much!!
The main reason I bought this was to use as an alternative to chemically filled anti-aging night serums. I decided to start using an overnight anti aging serum sometime last year and had horrible experiences with the ones I tried: irritation, breakouts, dryness...it was awful! Nothing seemed to agree with my sensitive skin.
That's when I went on a google search mission to find the perfect oil for my skin. Mission accomplished.
HOW GRAPESEED OIL HELPED MY SKIN
note: I have sensitive acne prone skin that is oily around the t-zone (combination skin).
- Over time it has been the main ingredient in helping kick acne out of this complexion.
I do not suffer from acne anymore! Woohoo! And although I still get a couple to a few zits around my "special lady time" it's mild in comparison to the 10-15 zits I'd have on my face all at once.
- It helps speed up the healing process of the few breakouts I get every month AND helps fade the scar.
- It has helped fade and blur old acne scars. I still have them but they're not a noticeable as they used to be.
- It has brought out a glow to my complexion that I've never had before. Never.
This is what I'm most excited about! My complexion finally looks healthy, even without makeup! There's a natural glow and dewiness to it that I always craved.
- I don't have to wear as much makeup as before.
I used to pack on the foundation to cover up my acne scars and then pack on the blush and highlighter to fake a healthy glow. But now my natural glow peeks out of my makeup. I probably wear 1/4 amount of product to what I used to.
This is me January 2013 with layers of makeup on....
This is me now, letting my skin breathe with just a tiny amount of makeup...
- It has erased my dark eye circles.
I never had major dark circles to begin with but if you look at my before and after you can see how my under eye area looks brighter and smoother in the after photo.
- It has helped even out my complexion
I used to have an uneven skin tone but it seems to be evening out.
I can't say anything about it's anti-aging claims since I'm only 29 and have yet to see any wrinkles but hopefully I won't see any if I keep using this product! A girl can hope, right?
After I wash my face at night time, I warm 3-4 drops of the oil between my fingers and then massage all over my face. I then dab 1 drop around each eye, concentrating most of the oil to the area one can develop "crows feet". Finally, I massage another 5 drops to my neck and decolletage.
It never feels heavy on my face nor do I wake up with an oily complexion (or oily pillow cases). My skin looks so refreshed, dewy and renewed in the morning! I love it!
There was a week I ran out of my daily moisturizer and used this instead and had no problems whatsoever! I think I will add a couple drops to my moisturizer during the dry winter months. I've also added a drop to my foundation for an extra dewy look.
I would highly recommend anyone with sensitive, oily, acne prone skin, dry skin....really anyone with skin to try it out! Again, I'm not an expert so use at your own discretion.
Are you a fan of natural alternatives to skin products? If so, what are your favorites?
Happy skin everyone!!

I'm so glad you did a post on this! I have oily skin and have heard such great things about grapeseed oil. Your skin looks fabulous! I've got about 15 years on you, and I SO wish I'd started using something like this sooner. :) I like your idea of adding a little to your foundation too. Thanks for putting together such an informative post!!
Amazing difference! I am totally sold on trying this!
WOW!!!!! And you look even more gorgeous than ever before!
Thanks, Lisa!! I'm so excited to finally be able to talk about it! You know me and my big mouth when it comes to products I love :) This stuff is amazing for oily skin too...it almost seems to minimize it.
Hi Madalyn! I'm glad to hear you may try it! It's worth the try..there are so many great reviews on it and I can't get over what a difference it has made in my skin! Thanks for stopping by friend!
You're too sweet, Vel. Thanks!!
I love coming across other people who use natural oils on their face! I actually clean my face with a mixture of olive oil to moisturize, castor oil to draw out makeup and other bacteria, and tea tree oil to prevent breakouts but I think I might try grapeseed once my current mixture runs out. Your skin looks gorgeous!!
Meaghan from DIYfaerie
I couldn't stop reading your blog...I will definitely try this. Where did you buy this kind of grapeseed oil?
Diana
Thanks so much, Meaghan! I used to use tea tree oil too for my acne- it works very well! I'll have to look into castor oil- sounds intriguing!
Glad you enjoy the blog, Diana! I actually bought my oil from Ebay but you can find it at Wholefoods, Amazon and I believe Walgreens carries it too :)
You look beautiful! Glad you shared this post. I might just have to try it out! :) xo
Thanks, Lindze!! It's worth giving it a try!
Wow so good to know! I might give it a try too!!
I read Redbook magazine and they feature many products for different types of skin and it's problems. In one article the make up lady actually advised using/adding this oil to makeup to help the skin.
I've learned so much about taking care of my skin and make up. I'm an older woman with very sensitive skin, dark spots from too many years in the sun, not having money to take care of my skin. I felt that being able to take care of my skin meant I had to buy all these expensive products. Obviously not so.
I'll let my daughter know about this as she has acne and oily skin. Not everybody can afford to go out to buy $30 plus products but still deserves to have nice skin. We live in a very dry climate so I get really dry in all seasons but especially winter. So glad I clicked on this blog post. Happy days
Let me know if you do, Summer!! I'm in love with this miracle oil!
Glad to see someone else who loves grape seed oil. And WOW what a difference. Your skin is glowing. So pretty! I just posted my DIY Essential Oil Anti Aging serum on Pin Junkie which is how I found you! So check that out I bet you will love it!!
Glad I found you xoxo
This seems like a good idea! I tried the "oil cleansing" method but it made me break out really bad. I think I will give this a try to help fade some of my scars- your skin looks great- Thanks for the info!

Hi Selene! I am thinking about using grape seed oil as a moisturizer and to help clear my acne. What do you recommend using as a cleanser?
Hello Selene!! I was wondering what you use as facial cleanser at night along with the grapeseed oil. I have combination skin like you and am looking for other suggestions :)
Wow, nice information for more dark spots

Thank you for reviewing grapeseed oil! Ive been looking for a moisturizer for my oily/blemished skin type and my racoon-y eyes whole my life :)
Hi Selene! This is my first time on your website and I look forward to trying grapeseed oil. I've also heard good things about rosehip oil (especially for anti-aging). What I wanted to ask you is, I noticed from your 2013 full makeup photo to your most current after photo that your teeth are significantly whiter. I like to use organic/natural products, I wondered what you use? Thank you! :) ~Karla
Hello!
I see in your post that you outline super clearly your nighttime routine using he grapeseed oil. I was wondering though what you do for skin treatment/cleansing in the morning??

I use the exact same mixture to clean my face! I actually started adding grapeseed oil as a serum in my night time skin care routine. After cleaning my face with the olive, castor and tea tree oil mixture, i dab rose water on my skin, let it dry and then i add the grapeseed oil. Simply amazing! No one believes me that i 100% use natural ingredients for my skin care routine because my skin is so healthy.

I am just like you- never had ANY acne all through middle school and high school and never washed my face at night. Now I'm 20 and have had terrible acne the past 2-3 years. I've tried everything and nothing seems to help. i want to try grape seed oil but don't know what I should be using to remove my make-up.. any suggestions?
And so also, I would remove my makeup with a makeup remover cleanser then put the grapeseed oil on my whole face and leave overnight? Rinse in the morning? I'm just not exactly sure what I should be doing.
Any advice is helpful, thanks!
How long into using the grape seed oil did you finally have your pimples disappear ?please I would like to know I have this issue ? Thank you ☺️

I've been using grapeseed oil on my face and hair, and it's the best oil I've ever used. Jojoba was nice enough but this is better. Doesn't feel greasy at all, just smooth and supple. My skin doesn't even get period pimples anymore, though I always got a few small ones before. It also leaves my hair glossy and slippy but not greasy. For reference, I have type 1bFii waist-length virgin hair and normal fair skin.

Nice results! You're probably correct that the vitamin E content of grapeseed oil is what caused the benefits. A lot of natural oils are claimed to be rich in vitamin E, like jojoba oil for instance, but actually contain very little. Grapeseed oil however, contains 7% of the daily allowance for vitamin E per 5 gram tablespoon.
If anyone commenting here needs a topical treatment for applying vitamin E then grapeseed oil is by far the best choice. Also, grapeseed oil is one of the richest natural oils in linoleic acid, which makes it excellent for acne compared to say, olive oil, which is far too high in inflammatory oleic acid to make it effective for skincare purposes.

I began using grapeseed oil about a year ago for my face and body. I had bee using coconut oil for years but it never seemed to do anything for my face (acne, dark hyper pigmentation spots/marks, combination skin).
I also tried rice bran oil for my face which did make my skin softer and a bit smoother but it did nothing for the dark marks or the acne.
The grapeseed oil is amazing. Not only does it seem to balance out my combination skin, my skin is super soft (face and body) and the oil seems to last all day (unlike coconut oil which always seemed so "thin" and would eventually seem to wear off and need constant "refreshing".)
I love it more than anything but I still use coconut oil for cooking and eating.

Hi, thankyou for your sharing! I would like to try grapeseed oil as you're recommended here... But I'm a bit hesitate since I'm wondering if grapeseed oil is good for hair growth, then does it have any effect to the growth of facial hair? I'm kinda worried about that... please anyone who knows about it, I really appreciate your sharing ;)
