Conduit Pipe Bay Window Curtain Rod + Bed Sheet Curtains

Looks like the kitchen is in the spotlight again!

We gave it a nice upgrade by Replacing The Vinyl Flooring With Faux Wood Tiles and now I'm ready to talk window treatments!

Don't you just love the way curtains pull a room together and make it feel complete?

I most certainly do!

One of the things I immediately fell in love with about this house was the bay windows in the kitchen that overlook into the backyard.

When we first moved in we just hung up those plain white individual curtain rods on each window and some black and white curtains.

Fast forward 3 years when we painted our kitchen walls and cabinets and the black and white curtains weren't doing anything for the room anymore.

That's when some sheer curtains came on the scene just to temporarily remedy our curtain situation, but we knew they had to be replaced soon.

Well, "soon" turned into almost two years people!! Two years!!

And when I think about the simplicity of the solution we ended up going with I just want to smack myself for not doing it sooner!

THE DIY BAY WINDOW CURTAIN ROD + BRACKETS

I came across this tutorial on making your own Bay Window Curtain Rod and this tutorial on DIYing your own Curtain Rod Hooks so we were good to go!

You guys, the tutorial for this bay window curtain rod has to be the best post I've ever came across!

I've been really into adding touches of industrial around the house so this was PERFECT!!

The curtain rod is simply a conduit pipe that my hubby bent to fit the angles of the windows, and the brackets are one hole straps and corner braces!!

And the rod finials are some knobs I found at Hobby Lobby!

And we didn't even spend $15 on the whole thing!

$15!!! For an industrial bay window curtain rod!!!

And if you're not into the industrial look, you can always paint your curtain rod a bronze color!

THE CURTAINS

I kept going back and forth on my decision for curtains for the longest time!

Did I want plain white curtains? Did I want a fun pattern? Did I want to buy them or DIY them? Did I want color?  On and on....

I finally decided on white curtains since our kitchen color is a little bold. And even though I love pattern, I thought it would be too much with the yellow wall color and the Chevron Striped China Cabinet.

And since I decided on white curtains this was the perfect time to try the oh so popular using bed sheets as curtains!

That's right people. I have bed sheets hanging on my windows.

If I wasn't ever labeled as classy I'm sure this will do it.

To add a little detail, I glued some Greek key ribbon with fabric glue along the top using the stitching on the bed sheet as my guide.

It really doesn't get any easier than this!

It adds the perfect amount of detail, don't you think so?

I then used some curtain rings to hang my curtains up and create folds....

I did have to shorten them so they didn't drag on the floor too much, but it was an easy and quick task using my beloved hem tape.

This. girl. does. not. sew. Ever.

Oh, how I am loving my conduit pipe bay window curtain rod and bed sheet curtains!!

And coming in at just under $65 (rod, brackets, finials, curtains, curtain hooks, ribbon and hem tape included), it's a very budget friendly way to update any window treatment in your home!

What do you think? Would you ever use bed sheets as curtains?

Love it! I mean, seriously...I LOVE this idea!! I also have bed sheets as curtains in my living room, but never thought to add trim to them. I love the Greek key ribbon you chose. It adds just the right amount of detail. And the knob on the end of the curtain rod is genius!!

Awww, thanks Lisa!! I thought, people are either going to think I'm REALLY cheap or REALLY ingenious!! I'm glad it was the latter!

your window looks fantastic! It's good to know you can't see through in, I want those too but without the liners :) I like the color of the chairs. Maybe you can play around with the pads or coves? Click Here
