Faux Wood Tile Flooring In the Kitchen

Hello friends!

Unintentional progress just happened in the kitchen!

This wasn't even part of my 2014 Home Project Goals...it just sort of happened.

You see....we're kind of spontaneous when it comes to upgrading our builder grade home.

When my hubby and I left for our date that night we had no idea that we would end up coming home to prep our vinyl flooring for FAUX WOOD TILE!

After dinner we ended up in Home Depot, which is not unusual for date night, only we left with a little more than our usual spray paint, light bulbs and weed killer.

The faux wood tiles caught my hubby's eyes first and I approved.

End of story.

It was going to be a DIY (and messy) weekend and week.

But so worth it!!

Even though the vinyl flooring was in great shape, it wasn't really doing anything for the other upgrades that had been done. It sort of just blended in with the cabinets we painted in antique white and they didn't stand out like they should.

Here is another before of the floor:

We ended up placing the tile directly on top of the original floor since it's a relatively new house and we knew there were no issues in the support under the flooring. We just sanded the vinyl flooring really well.

And by "we" I mean my awesome hubby! I did absolutely nothing but help clear furniture and try my very best to not lose it while living with our kitchen in my office space for a week.

And this is what progress looked like:

We went with faux wood tile since it's more durable and budget friendly. And honestly, you can't even tell that it's tile since the grout color blends in beautifully with the wood tones of the tile.

I am so happy with the way the cream cabinets stand out against the rustic wood tones of the flooring! It's the perfect contrast for me!

 Here's a close up:

And a few more afters...why not?!

Definitely worth the week of disorganized chaos that went on here!

In case you are wondering what tile we used, it's the Marazzi Montagna Porcelein Tile in Rustic Bay.

And I haven't forgotten about our Master Bathroom reveal!! There's just a few more little details to be done and I will be blogging about it!

And sometime this summer our master bedroom is going to get a much needed makeover!

This one just snuck up on us and I had to share!

Has Spring inspired you to DIY or upgrade?

The new flooring looks wonderful, Selene!! Y'all did such a good job! It goes really well with your kitchen. I know what you mean by living in chaos...we're smack dab in the middle of painting our kitchen cabinets and my whole kitchen is torn apart and we're using our living room as the "painting area" so all my living room furniture is now in my dining room. Lol!

Looks fabulous!!! My parents went right over linoleum in their bathrooms and it has held up really well!! Wish we had that option here!!

Thank you, Lisa!! It's such a nice and welcoming change!
Can't wait to see your cabinets ;)

Thanks Amber!! I'm glad to hear about someone else taking this route too! A lot of people frown upon the idea of not ripping out the linolium but we are so antsy around here we just had to do it over it!

Thanks, Lena!!

I have seen these wood look tiles before and think they look fantastic. they'd make a nice splash back tile as well.
What a great end to date night ... at least you have the same interests and love for your home xx

Michelle, what a great idea!!!!
And yes! It's so fun to always end up in a hardware store on date night!

Sometimes happy accidents work out better than planned projects. Your new floor looks gorgeous, love it. Wouldn't mind having that in our house. It really looks great.
I'm campaigning to pull up old high low, super ugly carpet to put anything else down. I'd settle for the lino floor under carpet til we could get the tiles. We have a 1998 manufactured home that has lots of features I'm not enamored with at all. You and hubs did great job and it looks so nice. We'll be checking out Home Depot soon to see if they have that in Grand Junction, CO store. Happy week

Selene @ Restoration Beauty said...

Thanks, Katelyn!! I was equally impressed with the fact that it's not too noticeable that it's tile!!

Can I ask you what color grout you used? We are actually using the exact same tile in a remodel and your floors look great. :)

I think your wooden floors looked a hundred times better after you cleaned them. I am curious, did you use a sealant? I used to was my wooden floors. The wax worked to keep them dry and made them last for a good decade.

Th at looks really good! I can't believe it's not real wood. I also really like the stain that is on it. I gives it a very rustic look. http://www.tilebazaar.com.au/contact

Amazing job, amazing price at Sweeney Cleaning. The yelp reviews aren't over hyped. They cleaned a two bedroom house and sofa for less than a competitor charges for just the sofa and it looked darn good when they finished. Feels like a new house!
