Wooohoooo!! Restoration Beauty is officially 1 today!!!
I'm not a flake! I stuck with it!! Haha!!
I realized that I've never really shared how this blog came about so today I'd like to share my blogging journey story with all of you!
But first, I want to say thank you to all of you guys!!! Seriously, you guys are the reason this blog has come such a long way in such a short amount of time.
Not to get sappy or anything, but I'm so grateful for all the friends and connections I've made through this blog. Every comment, like on Facebook, re-pin on Pinterest, email, follow, g+ just makes my day! It never gets old. Ever.
You guys are the best and even though I've never seen you face to face, I like to think of you as friends. Because only friends will sit and listen about your latest DIY, beauty find or cleaning shortcut you just discovered.
Now that I got all that out there, on to the story.
THE VERY BEGINNINGI started blogging in January 2013 but this blog had been in my heart for at least a year prior to that. At that time I dreamed about having a beauty blog (because as you know, I'm also into all things beauty).
So how did the Home DIY blog come about?
It all began with this girl discovering Pinterest. Love at first pin, let me tell ya.
I became addicted to pinning DIY projects and shortly after found myself addicted to doing those DIY projects I'd pinned.
My very first projects were spray painting stripes on my living room curtains and reupholstering some ugly office chairs (they're not ugly anymore!)
I learned that you could use wrapping paper as wall art and upcycle candle jars to give them purpose again.
I've sinced graduated to getting rid of builder grade cabinets by painting them and ridding myself of those ugly towel bars by DIY'ing some fabulous towel hook plaques.
You get the picture, this girl now loves pretty much DIY'ing anything! I love and enjoy the process!
KICKING FEAR'S BUTT!!With a new passion for all things home, it made sense to include it into my "blog that I would start one day."
I postponed blogging out of fear.
I figured there were enough informative home and beauty blogs out there. What could I possibly bring that would be any different? Would anyone give a hoot about what I have to say?
Then one day it hit me: As many blogs and tutorial I'd read on making your own roman shades (and trust me, they were lots!) I still read any new ones I found along the way. Why? Because the subject interested me. I could read and read about the same thing but because I read it through different bloggers perspectives it remained interesting. So why not be that other blogger offering their perspective?
I finally kicked fear's butt and started Restoration Beauty.
Fear does nothing but hold you back and I wasn't going to let it hold me back anymore.
I've realized my blog is different because I'm different.
IT'S ALL IN THE NAME
It took me a while to come up with my blog's name. I knew I wanted to blog about all things home and all things beauty so it was difficult to come up with something that would define both.
Painting In High Heels was an option, but was soon thrown in the trash. For one, the only time this girl is in heels is for church so it didn't paint a right image of who I was. I also felt it would make me sound a bit ditsy, which I'm not.
Other names came and went. I was getting frustrated so I finally asked myself what I wanted this blog to help people find.
My answer: I wanted my blog to help people discover the endless possibilities of finding beauty in the things that may seem ordinary or ugly at the moment; that everything could be restored to beauty with a little elbow grease and creativity.
I know a lot of women struggle with their self-worth and confidence (I know I did), so in the beauty aspect I wanted to let women know that it's okay to spend some time dolling themselves up, even it it's just throwing on some lip gloss.
Not because it's what defines their beauty but because they're beautiful and worthy enough to do the things that would make them feel good and confident.
My first beauty post was The Power of Makeup, where I showed the world what I look like without any makeup. I wanted to show that I wasn't ashamed of my naked face. Not because it's go-geous but because it's mine.
Restoration Beauty made perfect sense. I'm just glad I didn't get impatient and went with Paining in High Heels!! Oh my!!!!
WHAT I'VE LEARNED
1. The blogging community is super friendly and helpful!
The very first thing I noticed and was overwhelmed by (in a good way) was how friendly the blogging community is!
Seriously, besides my church family, I've never met friendlier people who are willing to help you get started!
I quickly made friends and connections and if I ever had a question they were always happy to answer it for me.
We're like a little support system for each other, it's awesome!
2. How much work blogging really is.
In the year that I only dreamed about blogging I somehow had this image in my head of popping my laptop open 2-3 times a week, writing a post, closing it and that's it.
Boy was I wrong!
I quickly was given a reality check after my first post and realized that a blogger is also a photographer, photo editor, writter, writing editor, brainstormer, organizer, marketer, planner and publicist. And that's not including all the projects you do for the posts!
And some do it with children in the house like I do!
It's so much work that I have to keep a check list for every step to make sure I don't miss anything for my posts.
3. I love blogging.
Even though a lot of work goes into each post, I absolutely LOVE every step!
I'm one busy bee but a happy one!
4. Blogging can become a source of income
A lot of bloggers make money blogging. Some hundreds, some thousands.
There are so many ways to make money blogging. Did you read my 14 Posts To Improve & Grow Your Blog? There are some helpful posts on making money blogging.
I recently started pursuing this and as I mature in this area I'll let you all know the tips I learn along the way!
And that is how Restoration Beauty came to be and continues to be. I guess you all do give a hoot about what I have to say! Thank you!
