My daughter scored a new playroom when I finally realized our spare bedroom wasn't serving any purpose at all so might as well give it to her.
You'd think I gave her the moon. She was ecstatic!
I'm not gonna lie, so was I because it meant picking out paint colors, decorating and organizing. You know, all the things I go la la over.
I (as always) want to do the whole room as frugally as possible. So that means shopping what we already have, and seeing how we can re-do some things to make them work in her new playroom.
Oh such fun, let me tell ya!
I already gave her bookshelf a little free pick me up (you can read about it here) so I was ready to move the the next thing on the list..wall art!
There are many things in the works, but today I am so happy to show you how I turned a once cute inspirational piece of art I bought at Target (okay, saying I bought a piece of art at Target just made me laugh. Who am I kidding?) into a fun piece that would work for a playroom!
This plaque (a much better description) was cute when I bought it 2 years ago. But to be honest, it was kinda getting on my nerves lately.
The typical pink and green color scheme and the overly sweet, "Live, Laugh, Love" saying just wasn't working anymore. At least, not for me.
Maybe if it had said, "Suck it up, you're not bleeding", I would have felt a little more fonder towards it.
But it didn't, so it had to be changed.
And it was so quick & easy (hence the title!)
All I did was paint over the pink with a mixture of craft paints. I just randomly started mixing white, blue, aqua and grey to get this almost Tiffany blue.
I just love how it looks against the green and the colorful letters!
Then I burned the cute little saying (okay, I just threw it away) and wrote the word play in all caps on sketch paper with markers.
I drew the letters long so they would fit and I used a different color for each letter, too.
I wasn't too careful or tried to bring my best penmanship skills to the table on this one. After all, it's for a playroom and it's okay if it looks like a 5 year old child wrote it.
This is now one of my favorite pieces that I've made for her playroom!
It's fun, colorful and direct!
Once I have some paint on the walls I will do a little show & tell and then continue to show you the progress as we go along! I'm planning on making her a table & chairs and a little kitchen so I'm pretty excited!
