This month's theme for our Summer Spruce-Up Series is Front Door/Entry!
What did that mean for me? It meant completely starting from scratch and actually transform our neglected front entry into an area that would welcome everyone with open arms (well not everyone, but you get the picture.)
Seriously, anything would have been an improvement. A smiley face drawn on the door, a piece of colorful fabric tacked on the door...ANYTHING!
Just look at the once dreary area that just said, "Don't you even dare ring my doorbell. Go away. Like right now."
The only thing I had out there was a black mat. That's it.
You've gotta give it to me though. I did keep the area clean. But what's the point of clean if there's no pretty factor?
So little ol' me got to work and bounced ideas off my husband. I really had to think about the space because it's really tiny and big outdoor furniture was immediately out of the question.
I decided I wanted to accomplish 3 things:
1. Slap something pretty on the door that was not a wreath (love them dearly but I really wanted something a little different.)
2. Have a small sitting area where Lily and I could enjoy some popsicles as we chit chat.
3. Have COLOR! I LOVE color! (But I'm sure you already knew that!)
And this is what I came up with (with the help of my awesomely talented hubby!)
Simple but pretty, and most importantly...welcoming! (Hey neighbors, you can come by now! Really, it's okay!)
Take a peek at all of the elements I incorporated:
I bought an 8x10 frame from the Dollar Tree, spray painted it blue and spray painted the glass with chalkboard paint. I wrote the classic, "Home Sweet Home", and wrapped some fresh rosemary (and one bloom from one of our plants) with twine and glued it to the frame! Tada!
I reworked our old black mat by spray painting blue and grey stripes!
My hubby built me the perfect sized bench with wood we already had and I sanded it and stained it (my first time staining!) I am in love with this bench!
I made two pillow covers out of drop cloth material and painted some red stripes on them! I stuffed them with pillows I already owned.
And in addition to adding a couple of planters, I bought this plastic bin at the Dollar Tree, spray painted it a glossy black, free handed a number 3 (for the number of people who live here) with white acrylic paint and added some driftwood from one of our lake trips!
Mission accomplished! It's exactly what I wanted: a colorful welcoming entry that we could enjoy!
Sprucing up this area was really so much fun! And I can't believe I hadn't done it earlier! Seriously, this Summer Spruce-Up was a God-sent! It definitely got this booty to work!
Remember to come back on Wednesday to show off your front door/entry areas!
I am so excited to see your ideas and creativity!
